MOTION SICKNESS – Edinburgh Preview
What’s he been up to this year?
A fifth helping of parentally-approved navel-gazing. Join Ivo Graham as he road-tests new material ahead of his return to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Apologetic Eton and Oxford alumnus Ivo started stand-up in 2009 at the age of eighteen and eight months later became the youngest ever winner of the prestigious So You Think You’re Funny award for new acts at the Edinburgh Fringe. Since graduating three years later he has become a regular fixture in the clubs and theatres of the UK circuit, with a gauche charm and crafty, self-aware wit which has proved a hit with audiences of all ages, and led to appearances on multiple TV and radio shows including Live At The Apollo, Mock The Week, Comedy Central At The Comedy Store, As Yet Untitled, Live From the BBC and Fighting Talk. He has also written for various other TV comedy shows, as well as his own sitcom projects in development with Big Talk Productions and the BBC.
His three solo stand-up shows have enjoyed sell-out runs at Edinburgh and London’s Soho Theatre, and he will be returning there and elsewhere to perform his fourth hour in 2017. As the Evening Standard put it, ‘if you like your comedy with long words and beautiful linguistic flourishes, buy a ticket immediately’.
FROM DEADPAN TO BEDPAN- Edinburgh Preview
In 2017 comedian, BAFTA award winner, Harry Potter actor and double bassist Jim Tavaré was involved in a near fatal head-on automobile collision in Los Angeles where he has resided since 2009. He lived to tell the tale….
Directed by Henry Normal and returning to the Fringe for the first time in 20 years with his first narrative show, ‘From Deadpan To Bedpan’, he tells the story of how a quick trip to the shops changed his life forever. The show is a heartwarming and seriously funny tale of survival against the odds, strange forebodings, unbelievably massive American medical bills, a dog called Mr Kippy, and the ultimate DIY disaster.
After suffering catastrophic injuries (over 30 broken bones including 14 broken ribs and punctured lungs that later collapsed, multiple fractures, blunt force trauma to his head and chest, a broken neck and a hand that detached from the wrist) that left him in intensive care on life support, he spent the next year in recovery facing an uncertain future. But instead of letting trauma define him, he emerges inspired with a brand new show.
Jim Tavaré is internationally renowned for his award winning comedy act featuring Bassie (his double bass). Jim is best known for co-writing and starring in The Sketch Show (ITV) (with Tim Vine & Lee Mack) and playing Tom the Innkeeper in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. He starred in his own TV series The Jim Tavaré Show (Channel 5) co-written with Ricky Gervais, and Jim Tavare Pictures Presents… (BBC2).
