The grounds around Knaresborough Castle will be the setting for one of literature’s most enduring stories on Saturday 29 July as it hosts the touring Chapterhouse Theatre Company’s production of Pride and Prejudice.
When Elizabeth Bennett meets the rude and abrupt Mr Darcy, she loathes him at first sight. But is there more to him than meets the eye…..?
Following on from the success of last year’s Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre back in 2015, Chapterhouse is making a welcome return to the Castle with a special revival of Pride and Prejudice to mark the 200th anniversary of Jane Austen’s death.
Now in its 18th year of taking open-air theatre to country houses, castles and heritage sites across the UK and Ireland, Chapterhouse has established itself as one of the country’s most critically acclaimed touring companies, travelling with adaptations of literature’s most celebrated writers including William Shakespeare, Arthur Conan Doyle and the Brontë sisters.
And now it’s returning to Knaresborough with a one night only presentation of a literary classic, played out in the beautiful setting of the castle grounds.
Richard Main is the Artistic Director of Chapterhouse Theatre Company. He said: We’re thrilled to be returning to Knaresborough Castle again this summer.
We had such a wonderful time last year performing Wuthering Heights and can’t wait to perform there again with Pride and Prejudice, an occasion which I’m sure will be equally special!
Diane Saxon is Access and Learning Manager with Harrogate Borough Council’s Museums and Arts service. She said:
We’re delighted that Chapterhouse are performing at Knaresborough Castle again this year – their performance is now a much anticipated part of the summer season of events in the town.
The castle grounds are the perfect backdrop for a performance which takes a step back in time to meet Elizabeth Bennett, Jane Austen’s most lovable heroine.
It’s going to be an unforgettable evening under the stars.
