People are being invited to attend the event which will include stalls selling cakes and preserves, fresh produce and plants from the garden. There will be a chance to meet the gardeners for some top tips. Tickets are £5.00 which includes entry, tea and homemade cake, and can be purchased on the day.

There is ample parking in the field adjacent to Field Cottage but there is limited access for wheelchairs users in the garden and the owners have requested no dogs.

Field Cottage is located 1.5 miles SE Ripon, off the Ripon bypass. Follow signs to Littlethorpe and Littlethorpe Road can be found on the edge of the village at the 30mph sign.

Retired professional gardeners Richard & Liz Tite have a one acre plantsman`s garden on a dry, freely draining soil. There is a small formal walled garden, mixed island beds with grasses and late summer perennials, an 18` Victorian style greenhouse, vegetable and cut flower plot, and unusual and tender plants in containers. The garden was started by them 27 years ago and has since evolved to become less maintenance dependent.

Liz Tite, Member of the Fundraising Group, said:

Historically our tea parties have been a resounding success, helping to bring in vital funds so that the Charity can continue to care for people living with a terminal illness across Ripon. In 2015 we raised a staggering £1,400 and this year we are hoping to beat that. We’re urging local people to pay us a visit to browse the garden over a cuppa and cake.

The charity is also encouraging other local people and companies to stage their own tea parties by serving tea and cake in exchange for a donation. Alternatively, people could host a blooming great cake off by inviting bakers and tasters to donate to take part, stage a cupcake decorating contest, run a guess the weight of the cake competition, organise a baking themed quiz or simply arrange a cake sale.
