Date(s) - 19 May 2022
7:30pm - 9:30pm
In May, Berwins Salon North will be looking at what makes us human – from the science and psychology of ‘being animal’ and the process of recovery from mental illness to unlearning what we “know” about women in ancient history and myth.
Tickets are available on our website, at our Box Office (32 Cheltenham Parade, Harrogate HG1 1DB) or by phone on 01423 562303.
– Writer, broadcaster and “rock star mythologist” Natalie Haynes will explore the modern relevance of the classical world and reframe how we perceive the women of ancient mythology who have been painted as monstrous, vengeful or just plain evil.
– Award winning researcher Melanie Challenger will be asking how well we really know ourselves, offering a radical take on what it means to be human and arguing that at the heart of our psychology is a profound struggle with being animal.
– After a lifetime of ups and downs, travel writer and journalist Horatio Clare will be sharing his first hand account of mental illness, looking at how the mind loses touch with reality, how we fall apart and how we can be healed – or not – by treatment.
As ever, our trio of speakers is expertly bound together and hosted by the fabulous Helen Bagnall.
Sponsored by Berwins solicitors, these TED-style talks are designed to change your life for the better. Presenting big ideas, and answering key questions in life, Salon was voted as number six in the ‘Top 100 Things to do in the World’ by GQ magazine.
Tickets are £16, student/JSA £11.20. A £1.75 booking fee applies.
