Police seek owners of suspected stolen property

15 June 2011

Police in the Harrogate area are hoping to reunite a haul of suspected stolen property with its rightful owners.

On Monday evening (13 June 2011) at round 10.30pm, officers on routine patrol in the Harrogate district stopped a flat-bed truck in Poole-in-Wharfedale.

The truck contained metal items of scrap value including sheep wire fencing, a container of petrol, a red bail grabber and other items.

Officers suspect that the property may have been stolen from farms in the Harrogate area. They are appealing for members of the public who believe any of the items may belong to them, to get in touch.

The three occupants of the truck were arrested at the scene on suspicion of theft and released on bail while enquiries continue.

The arrested men are all from the West Yorkshire area and include a 27-year-old man from Bradford and two men aged 23 and 24 who are both from Shipley.

Anyone who believes the property may be theirs, is urged to contact police on 0845 60 60 247 quoting reference 12110097276.

Investigating officer, TC Andy MacLeod of Harrogate Roads Policing Group said: “The arrest of these men sends a clear message to travelling criminals who cross our borders to commit crime – don’t waste your time as we’ll be waiting for you,

“We are constantly on the look-out for suspicious activity and you can expect to be arrested.”

The truck and the property were seized by police at the scene. The men were taken into custody for questioning on Monday evening and released on bail yesterday.
