FEVA Lions Beer Festival to coincide with Picnic in the Park

9 August 2018

The Lions Beer Festival, part of Knaresborough’s FEVA (Festival of Entertainment and Visual Arts), returns to Knaresborough House from Friday 17th to Sunday 19th August 2018.

This year for the first time, the Beer Festival has been scheduled for the same weekend as Picnic in the Park, FEVA’s free outdoor music festival. Picnic in the Park will take place in the grounds of Knaresborough House on Saturday 18th August, from noon till 5pm.

So while you are enjoying music from four live bands (including hugely popular local band Chequered Past), hosted by the irrepressible DJ Trev, you can also choose to sample some of the many beers and ciders on offer at the bar in Knaresborough House. At the same time you can bask in the knowledge that profits from the Beer Festival are funding Picnic in the Park, keeping it free for all to enjoy.

This year’s Beer Festival offers more variety than ever, with 24 beers on tap, including golden ales, bitters, stouts and IPAs, and ranging from 3.6% to 7.0% ABV. You might start, for example, with the refreshingly zesty Lemon Dream (Salopian Brewery), face Jack the Devil (Cullercoats Brewery) in the next round, and perhaps go on to enjoy Wild Gravity (BAD Co.) or even Swirly Termination (Half Moon Brewery).

Knaresborough’s own Rooster’s Brewing Co. is well represented at the festival, which features their classic best bitter Capability Brown, pale ales Leghorn and White Rose, and New World IPA Alternative Facts.

Or if it’s cider you’re wanting, there will be six to choose from, ranging from traditional styles to ciders blended with rhubarb, raspberry, or even Seville oranges in the case of Orchard Pig’s tangy Marmalade Cider. There will also be wine, prosecco, Pimm’s, bottled lagers and soft drinks on sale. On the Friday and Saturday you can enjoy mouth-watering foods from Geordie Banger Co. and Dee Spice.

There will be more music than ever, too, not only during Picnic in the Park but on all three days of the Beer Festival. On Friday there are rousing sea shanties from male harmony group Chorus Crew. Guitarist and singer Paul Watson entertains the crowds with well-known songs on the Friday and Saturday evenings. Sunday afternoon features the Knaresborough Silver Band, on excellent form as they ready themselves for the Brass Band National Championships next month.

As always, there is no entry charge for the Beer Festival, no requirement to buy glasses or tokens, and no minimum spend. All beers and ciders cost £3.00 per pint or £1.50 for a half, with glasses of wine, prosecco or Pimm’s at £3.00.

The Knaresborough Lions would like to thank our many generous beer and cider sponsors, including Rooster’s Brewing Co. who have also helped with organising the event.
