Paloma Faith in York

Paloma Faith plays to 42,000 at York Races

2 July 2018

Paloma Faith played York Races at the weekend – 30 June 2018

We tagged along with Harrogate pro music photographer, Ed Fielding, to photograph and put a brief review together. It was also about putting a feature together on Ed himself and his work – more of that to come in a later feature item.

The live music events at York Races are interesting in that they immediately follow the racing. Once the horses are safely away at around 5pm, all eyes turn down the course to the temporary stage. The course was at capacity with 42,000.

We were lucky enough to be in the stage pit area and looking out into the crowd is impressive – people watching from the furthest stands and from the other side of the course. It was sea of people in baking sunshine.

Paloma is known for speaking her mind at this was no different here, with many random facts conveyed to the audience. It wasn’t political statements, just Paloma’s unfiltered thoughts. I think it’s to be applauded, being yourself and saying what you think or having a personality.

The music was all there, from her ballad type numbers to the more rocky numbers. It can be difficult to choice between her styles. The ballads show her voice off, yet the more upbeat numbers maybe worked better in such a big venue.

For a £12 ticket it is good value for money.
