A charity evening at St Aidan’s C of E High School has raised £12,400 for the Sir Robert Ogden Macmillan Centre in Harrogate. The unit has said that the money will be used locally for complementary therapies.

The evening took place on Friday 9 February 2018 at Constance Green, St Aidan’s C of E High School.

450 guests raised £7,400.  Barclays Bank match funded up to £5,000, giving an amazing total of  £12,400.

The money raised will be spent locally by Macmillan providing complementary therapies for individuals undergoing cancer treatment. For some, the complementary therapy is not just about making the cancer treatment more bearable, but can make the difference in being able to continue with treatment.

The event was conceived by Caroline Rosser, a teacher at the school. It was supported by parent, Emma Dooley along with a team of students. All the dresses had been donated following an online appeal – they were then sold for £25 each.

Apart from the money being raised for charity, an ethos of the event was to reuse dresses, often that have only been used once and sat in the back of a cupboard, making a prom more accessible to all.
