Salford City 0 – 3 Harrogate Town

7 December 2016

Harrogate Town set up a mouth watering 1st Round FA Trophy home clash with high flying Barrow, when they triumphed 3-0 at Salford City last night.

For Town, Joe Colbeck and Joe Leesley replaced Nicky Clee and Lloyd Kerry, and James Cadman was ineligible through being cup-tied.

After some early raids from Salford were easily contained, Leesley had Town’s first chance of the night on sixteen minutes, when he brought a save from Jay Lynch.

Salford hit back with Mike Phenix latching onto a Houghton through ball and curling a shot wide of the upright and on forty minutes, Priestley headed another Houghton cross over the top.

However,it was Town who broke the deadlock on fortyfour minutes, when Colbeck allowed Wayne Brooksby’s centre to run on to Leesley who slotted home past Lynch.

Phenix shot wide after being played in by Barnes, but two goals in five minutes effectively put Town into the next round.

On fiftyseven minutes,Louis Swain broke forward and crossed for Colbeck to finish at the far post.

Next, Andi Thanoj beat Lynch from the edge of the area to make the game safe.

Lynch saved well from Colbeck and Jon Paul Pittman and Leesley fired wide as Town kept up the pressure.

Chris Elliott was called into last minute action to preserve Town’s clean sheet, when he had to make a save to deny James Poole.

So the stage is set for an intriguing home tie with a Barrow side who have just progressed to the third round of the FA Cup, after a stunning victory over League One, Bristol Rovers.
