Hot prize for fire garden picture

25 June 2016

The Harrogate International Festivals have launched a photo competition with Harrogate’s leading camera shop, Bass and Bligh, to win a £30 voucher to spend in their store.

Audiences have just tonight for what’s been called a ‘not-to-be-missed’ experience. Gates open at 8pm, with last entry at 11pm and event close at midnight.

The Fire Garden in Valley Gardens is a magical, flaming display of sculptures and installations on a grand scale. The event is staged by Harrogate International Festivals with the renowned French street arts company, Cie Carabosse – a collective of artists, musicians, actors and scenographers – who deliver largescale installation-spectacles in public spaces across Europe.

Sharon Canavar, CEO of Harrogate International Festivals, said:

The ‘fairground of fire’ is designed to spark imaginations, so the creative challenge of photographing the atmosphere, impact, emotion of this event is a great idea.

It’s hard to convey how amazing it is as it’s such a living, breathing event, and so spectacular. I imagine it’s the ultimate challenge for a photographer to capture, but we’re excited to support this photo competition and see the results. It’s also a great way to help Harrogate capture this event too.

Photos do not have to be just of the flames; audience reactions, faces, or family snaps and selfies that capture the awe of the night are welcome.

The event is the centrepiece of Harrogate International Festivals’ 50th anniversary celebrations and part of Yorkshire Festival 2016, supported by Harrogate Borough Council.

Justin Barnes, owner of Bass and Bligh, is supporting the event with a voucher to spend in his store.

Justin said:

Harrogate has some great events throughout the year, but the Cie Carabosse is something very special. I visited it on Friday evening with the family and was blown away with how much there is to see and simply how enchanting it makes Valley Gardens.

When I was there I noticed that there were many people taking photographs and thought that it would be a great idea to have competition to see some of the best.

To enter the competition, just head over to the Harrogate International Festivals Facebook page at www.facebook.com/Harrogate-International-Festivals-30891401888/ and just join the page and upload your photo to their page.

Justin Barnes and Sharon Canavar will make their selection of the best in a few days time.
