A Masham hotel is celebrating after winning a coveted regional food accolade.

The White Bear, owned by T&R Theakston Ltd, scooped the Pub Food of the Year title in this year’s Flavours of Herriot Country Awards, after wowing judges during an unannounced visit with its selection of fresh, locally sourced produce.

The award was presented to general manager, Sue Thomas, and her team, by celebrated Yorkshire Chef, Stephanie Moon, at a lunchtime ceremony held at the Garden Rooms at Tennants, in Leyburn.

The awards were judged by an independent panel of food and drink experts, led by chairman, Elaine Lemm, and included BBC Radio 2 food and drink expert Nigel Barden, Chef Lionel Strub, and Susie Brindley from Welcome to Yorkshire.

Speaking after the event, Sue said:

We are absolutely thrilled to have won the Pub Food of the Year Category. It still hasn’t sunk in!

This part of the North Yorkshire is blessed with a plethora of pubs serving superb food, so it’s doubly pleasing to carry off this title.

Food is a very important part of our business, and we have a great team here who love creating dishes sourced whenever possible from fresh, local produce.

We have regular customers who travel far and wide for our food and, of course, to sample our range of Theakston’s cask ales.

Winning this award has put us well and truly on the ‘foodie’ map, and will hopefully promote us to a host of new customers looking for the best pub food this part of the world has to offer.

We will not be resting on our laurels, but working even harder to ensure our culinary crown doesn’t slip over the next 12 months.
