Boston United v Harrogate Town match report

11 November 2015

In a cracking,5 star match at York Street, Boston, the Pilgrims came from behind three times to hold Harrogate to a draw.

Town were missing Brendan Daniels through suspension and Jack Emmett through illness, and so Louis Swain started wide on the left.

The visitors were by far the quicker off the mark, with Jerry Yates shooting wide after a smart turn and Luke Shiels heading over a Joe Colbeck corner.

On ten minutes Town took a deserved lead when Swain volleyed a Lloyd Kerry cross goalwards only for keeper, Henrich Ravas, to turn the ball for a corner.

The home defence couldn’t deal with Colbeck’s inswinger and Dominic Knowles headed on for Yates to poke in from close range.
The Pilgrims were slow to hit their stride, but a dangerous run down the left by Dayle Southwell produced Peter Crook’s first save of the match.

A series of long throws into the box by Zac Mills kept the Town defence occupied, while at the other end,a Kerry snap shot saw Ravas concede a corner, and then Yates shot wide after Ravas had blocked his original effort.

On thirtysix minutes,Boston equalised for the first time in the match.

Paul Thirlwell conceded a free kick which was taken by Dylan McEvoy and Southwell was on hand to head into the corner of the net, giving Crook no chance to save.

Town almost started the second half with a gift goal, when Ravas hit a weak clearance straight at Dom Knowles who curled the ball past the hapless keeper only to see it rebound off the upright.

Ten minutes later,Knowles who was having an excellent game, got his goal when his cross shot crept into the far corner evading Liam Marrs desperate efforts to scramble it away.

However,a mad three minutes had a hugh bearing on the eventual result.

On the hour,Lewis Turner was brought down inside the area by Carl Piergianni, but Ravas gave the Pilgrims a boost when he dived low to his right to keep out Knowles’s penalty.

Within three minutes a revitalised Boston were level for the second time when their “Man of the Match”,Jordan Richards crossed from the touchline for Piergianni to head home.

The Boston cheers had hardly died down when Town regained the lead for the third time.

Knowles charged down a clearance then made ground before squaring to Swain who netted with a low drive.

Cecil Nyoni and Jordan Thewlis replaced Thirlwell and Swain respectively, as the game entered its final stages.

A brilliant one handed save by the unsighted Crook from Southwell denied Boston, while Thewlis drove into the side netting after being played in by Knowles.

The introduction of the powerful Ryan Robbins by Boston, began to cause problems for Town and it was no surprise, when with eight minutes left he fired a Kyle Dixon pass into the far corner to level the scores for a third and final time.

Both sides slugged it out like tired fighters as the game neared its conclusion, but it was Boston who came closest to scoring when a Richards cross shot came back off Town’s crossbar.
