New signing for Harrogate Town AFC

26 May 2014

Harrogate Town AFC have sign prolific non-league goalscorer James Walshaw.

James, 30, is well known for his goalscoring exploits and last season he hit the target 32 times as his club, Altrincham, won the Skrill North play-offs.

Starting his career at Ossett Town, James was soon on the goal trial. Following a brief stay at Leek Town, he was on the move to Conference North side Farsley Celtic. Following their sad demise he left having scored 8 times in 16 matches.

A short move to Wakefield FC was ended when Gusieley AFC snapped James up. Straight away the Nethermoor crowd sensed that they had a great player on their hands and three seasons and 66 goals later they were devastated when he was signed by Darlington.

Financial problems at the Quakers forced James into a loan move at FC Halifax Town and again he impressed with his play and deadly finishing.

Despite FC Halifax wanting to sign James permanently, his former club Guiseley got in their first and James returned to Nethermoor for the 2012-2013 season.

Following another successful campaign, James was snapped up by Altrincham at the end of the season. Unfortunately personal reasons stopped James from being able to continue with The Robins following their promotion and we are very pleased that he has chosen Harrogate Town as his next club.

Speaking about James’s capture, manager Simon Weaver said: James’s goalscoring record speaks for itself. He is a natural finisher and 32 goals last season is an amazing achievement.

He has scored many times against us and I am hoping that he can be a heartbreaker for us, like he was for Guiseley and Altrincham.

I had to move quickly to get James to join us but I am glad to have finally got him.
He will certainly bring that fear factor with him and I am certain that defences will be sick of the sight of him again this coming season.
