MP’s Christmas card competition winner named

11 December 2013

The MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough, Andrew Jones, will be using a design created by Scotton Lingerfield Primary School class three pupil Joel Adams for his ‘Create a Christmas card for your MP’ competition.

Every year since being elected as an MP, Andrew has run the competition with local primary schools, where pupils aged between four and 11-years-old are asked to design a Christmas card which he sends to many local people and organisations.

The cards were judged by the Mayor’s Consort Clive Kirkham, Penny Mackenzie – a former primary school teacher, and Amanda Reeve who works at Harrogate High school.

Andrew said:

The competition has been a great success for the past three years and I believe there is no better way to spread the Christmas cheer than to get local school children involved in designing my card.

It was wonderful to see so many colourful and creative entries to the competition and it was very difficult to pick a winner. Joel’s drawing was full of warmth and Christmas cheer, the judges were very impressed.

Joel was awarded a framed copy of his Christmas card. Each primary school that entered had a ‘local winner’ and every child who submitted an entry received a special certificate signed by Mr Jones.
