Bin bag of cash containing thousands left on York doorstep

Police are investigating the discovery of a bin bag containing thousands of pounds in bank notes have issued an appeal for information.

The bag was left on the doorstep of a private house in York and was handed into York police on the morning of 20 August 2013, shortly after the householder made the discovery.

Police are investigating where the cash came from and are appealing for anyone who has any information to contact them.

Detective Inspector Andrea Kell of York CID, said:

This is a very unusual find which remains unexplained and we would like to find out where the money came from and rule out any criminal connection.

The bag was discovered at 10am on Tuesday morning, which is also bin collection day for the area and officers believe it will have been left at some point during the early morning.

Anyone who has any information which could help the investigation is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for York CID.
