Career fair puts students on the right path

5 February 2013

Harrogate High School hosted a careers fair on Tuesday to inspire pupils and help them choose their future career path.

More than 30 local businesses and education providers attended the fair which gave pupils aged 11 – 18 and their parents the chance to speak to representatives from a wide range of job sectors from the Armed Forces to veterinary.

Attending businesses included Ripon Farm Services, who brought a tractor for visitors to sit in and learn about, Bishopton Veterinary Practice whose ‘live’ display proved a real hit with visitors and award winning Harrogate based PR agency Acceleris Marketing Communications.

Harrogate High School Principal, Andrew Bayston, said:

Choosing a career path is a big decision so it’s important that pupils and parents have as much information as possible to help them make an informed choice. We had a fantastic turn out from local businesses which gave students a real insight into different job sectors.

Young people are facing one of the most difficult job markets in decades, so we at Harrogate High School are trying to do everything in our power to help our students choose the career path that’s right for them.

The careers fair is part of the school’s annual Pathway Planning Day which gives pupils a dedicated day to discuss their subject choices and career ambitions with their teachers and parents.

Harrogate High School became an academy on 1 June 2012 and has approximately 640 students on roll including 160 in the Sixth Form. It celebrated five consecutive years of record results in 2012.
