Selby Police seek fast food fraudster

7 March 2012

Selby police have released CCTV images of a man wanted for a fraud at McDonald’s.

The suspect conned a worker at the fast food outlet at Three Lakes Retail Park out of £65 in cash after asking to exchange some bank notes at around 7pm on 10 November 2011.

He ordered a bottle of water which he paid for with loose change but then asked the cashier to change a £20 note into £10 notes. He then repeatedly asked for the notes to be changed and the confusion he created resulted in him obtaining more money than he had originally handed over.

The suspect then left the restaurant in the company of another man and a woman.

He is described as Asian, aged in his late 30s or early 40s, around 5ft 7in tall with a medium build and balding black hair. He spoke in broken English and had several gold teeth.

Officers are appealing to anyone who recognises the suspect to get in touch.

PC Sally Smith, of Selby Safer Neighbourhood Team, said:

The images of the suspect are very clear and I hope that someone will recognise the suspect and let us know who he is.

If you witnessed the fraud take place or can help identify the suspect, please contact the police or Crimestoppers with information.

I would also like to warn people who work in the food or retail industry to be vigilant and take care not to fall victim to similar scams.

Anyone who can help the investigation is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 – select option 2 – and ask for Sally Smith.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111, quoting reference number 12110191424.
