Business plan agreed with the community for running Bilton Library

28 February 2012

LibraryThe North Yorkshire County Council (NYCC) has agreed a business plan with community representatives to ensure Bilton library remains open.

The library will now be run by the community.

MP Andrew Jones commented:

I would like to commend the hard work of the Bilton and Woodfield Community Library Group who put together the business plan enabling the library to continue.

The community came together to give their time and expertise and, from what initially seemed a nearly impossible position, have come through for local people.

I look forward to visiting when the community group take over the running of the library on 1 May to personally congratulate them on their success.

Bilton councillor Alec Brown – who has become a trustee of the Library Group  added:

We have all worked so hard for this. The community are really getting behind the library with a fundraising group to ensure the facilities are properly financed.

It’s an amazing turnaround when you think where we were just twelve months ago.

The Community Library Group was supported with a grant of £200 from the Bilton Gala funds. Profits from the Gala are used to support Bilton Community initiatives.
