New body representing Harrogate’s self catering businesses launched

20 July 2011

A new body to give a louder voice to the owners and operators of self catering businesses in the Harrogate District has been launched.

Self Catering in Harrogate has been created not only to promote this style of accommodation, but also to give owners a collective voice in matters affecting the vital conference and tourism markets.

A total of seven businesses, who between them have more than 1,000 bed spaces in and around the district, have formed the group and launched a new website; www.selfcateringinharrogate.co.uk

Group spokesman Alison Hartwell, of Harrogate Holidays, said: “With the rise of serviced apartments, townhouses and cottages, we are offering conference delegates, tourists and those looking for a short stay in the district, an alternative to hotels and guest houses.

“We play an important role in Harrogate’s conference and tourism trade. Without good quality accommodation conference organisers will look to other towns and cities to host their events.

“Self Catering in Harrogate will seek to work with the International Centre and the other ‘accommodation’ groups, namely Accommodation Harrogate and Destination Harrogate.”

Members of Self Catering in Harrogate are:

Harrogate Holidays

Harrogate Serviced Apartments

Harrogate Luxury Lettings

nightspace

The MiddlehamTown Centre Cottage

Rasmus Living

Harrogate Elite Living

Mrs Hartwell added: “We want to be recognised as the self catering arm of the accommodation market and our primary goal is to ensure Harrogate secures its position as the premier conference town in the country.”
