Workhouse Museum this Christmas for a Festive Lighting Display

Tte Workhouse Museum in Ripon has a Christmas lighting display, illuminating the front of the building.

It will run from 5.30pm to 9.30pm each evening over the Christmas period.

Ripon Museum Trust, working with locally based audio-visual and lighting specialists Fusion LX, have created a festive feel to the front of the building.

Helen Thornton, Director of Ripon Museum Trust said:

When we knew we were going into a second lockdown, it seemed like a good thing to do – to provide something to cheer everyone up as they walked past, even though they couldn’t come in to see us for a while. It is brilliant that we have such an experienced company right here on our doorstep in Ripon; Fusion LX’s experience with museums and visitor attractions across the UK is extensive.

Setting this up has been a great learning curve for us: to see what exactly is possible in terms of lighting up the front of our building and to further appreciate the architecture. The project has given us lots of very exciting ideas for continuing these lights beyond Christmas – using different themes, images and colours and perhaps working with community groups and artists to design some interesting illuminations, which tie into our Victorian heritage.

Ian Carling, Director of Fusion LX added:

2020 has been a tough year for everyone. We welcomed the opportunity to lend the kit to the Workhouse Museum to hopefully lift the spirits of the residents of Ripon over the holidays.

Ripon Museum Trust’s Christmas lights will be up until Twelfth Night on Tuesday 5 January 2021, so take your daily exercise up or down Allhallowgate to enjoy them, along with the new Ripon City lights adorning the street for the first time this year.

The Workhouse Museum is now open for visitors seeking a day out.
