Huegett steps down as Ladies First Team Manager

13 July 2022

Carey Huegett has stepped down as Manager of HTAFC Ladies after over a year in the position.

Appointed in June 2021, the former Leeds United player quickly set about forming better links between the U17s, Reserves and First Team, with promising young players from the U17s going on to make their debuts for the first team.

With a youthful squad, Huegett would guide Town to a 4th place finish in the NERWFL Premier Division, challenging eventual Champions York City for the title until late in the season.

The 2021/22 season also saw our Ladies side reach the Vitality FA Cup First Round before eventually losing to a strong Newcastle side.

Carey Huegett said:
Firstly, I would like to say a huge thank you to the club for giving me a fantastic opportunity to represent my hometown club as the Ladies First Team Manager.

I had the honour of working with a tremendous set of girls who represented the badge with immense pride and gave me everything they could – week in, week out. They shared the same values and morals and as a result I have made bonds and friendships for life and will always be their number one fan.

To be able to create a dressing room full of hardworking, honest, determined characters and knit all their personalities together to produce so many positive memories will be something I will treasure forever.  There are so many positive occasions from all three of our age groups that will live long in the memory. But being able to create an extremely positive culture from our Under 17’s right through to the First Team and see the development on and off the pitch will be something I will always be proud of.

I would like to thank all the players and staff for their dedication, commitment and endeavour last season, and the fans for following us every step of the way. It was an amazing experience and something I would love to return to in the future – but unfortunately, right now, I believe it is the right time to step down due to work and personal commitments that will hinder me being able to give 100% to the Ladies setup – which is something they fully deserve.

I wish the girls and management all the best for the upcoming season, and I will continue to support Harrogate Town Ladies – albeit from afar.
