Community First Yorkshire is shining a spotlight on loneliness to help those in need

7 June 2022

Today marks the launch of Loneliness Awareness Week, the UK’s national week to raise awareness of loneliness and get people talking about it.

The week, which is hosted by the Marmalade Trust, is in its sixth year and runs from 13-17 June 2022.

The primary objective this year is to reduce stigma around loneliness by educating the general public that loneliness is something that everyone is likely to experience during their lifetime and that it’s a completely natural emotion.

All over the UK, people will be reflecting on loneliness and its impact on our mental health. Long-term loneliness is closely linked to mental health problems such as depression and anxiety.
Here at Community First Yorkshire we would like to raise as much awareness as we can and offer our own resources to support anyone affected by loneliness.

Jane Colthup, Chief Executive at Community First Yorkshire, said:

The impact that loneliness can have on a person’s mental health can be massive. Other factors such as someone living in a rural setting can exacerbate feelings of loneliness.

Here at Community First Yorkshire, we have a wealth of resources focusing on the impacts of loneliness and ways to support yourself and others experiencing it. These resources are readily available for everyone to access and we will be promoting them throughout Loneliness Awareness Week.
