Celebrating a successful SATs week at Willow Tree Primary School!

23 May 2022

Last week, Year 6 pupils around the country completed the end of primary school SATs tests for the first time since 2019. Although some were a little bit nervous, Willow Tree’s Year 6 showed fantastic levels of determination and commitment throughout the whole week.

Each morning, the children were treated to a SATs breakfast of brioches and croissants which was very kindly provided once again by Morrisons. This gave the children the chance to enjoy some food and a chat with their friends before school and helped distract them from the upcoming tests. The children loved this change in their usual school routine and it really helped ensure they went into the classroom feeling relaxed and fuelled for the day!

The weather proved dry for most of the week meaning they were able to spend a lot of time in between papers outside enjoying games of rounders and benchball. They also got the opportunity to explore their creativity and spent the afternoons constructing model volcanoes using paper maché, which they then erupted at the end of the week in an exciting science experiment.

On Friday, to celebrate the end of the test week, the children enjoyed bouncing all of the SATs concentration away on an inflatable obstacle course. Between bounces, they went outside to enjoy lawn games, such as giant Jenga and Connect 4, and ended the day with an ice lolly!

UKS2 Phase Leader, Tom Perkins said:

I’m exceptionally proud of every Year 6 pupil for their admirable resilience. I’m also very grateful to Willow Tree’s fantastic Year 6 team, who went above and beyond to support and encourage pupils during a challenging week.
