Following easing of Government restrictions, Henshaws Arts and Crafts Centre, which works with disabled adults from the local community, is to open its doors to new Art Makers from Monday 17 May.

The Centre is inviting disabled people from across the district to find out more and to apply for places.

The Arts and Crafts Centre had to limit the number of Art Makers and stop visitors last year as the effects of the COVID-19 lockdown hit its ability to operate.

Henshaws Chief Executive Nick Marr said:

COVID-19 has had a massive impact both on the Arts and Crafts Centre and the charity as a whole and we have been working tirelessly to continue to support those who need it most, so I am absolutely delighted that we are now able to take this major step forward.

The Centre has been open to a limited number of Art Makers in recent months but now has plans in place to allow more to attend, although it will remain closed to the public for the time being.

Potential Art Makers and their families or carers are being invited to find out more about what is on offer with a virtual tour from 10am to 2pm on Wednesday 12 May.

The tour will feature both current Art Makers and workshop leaders, with some taster workshop sessions. The team will offer advice and guidance on how to become an Art Maker and disabled adults can find out what makes the Centre a great place to create art, make friends and have fun. There will also be a question-and-answer session for anyone who wants to know more.

The Arts and Crafts Centre runs a wide range of workshops, including music, paper, print making, jewellery, pottery, mosaics, woodwork, horticulture, and performing arts, with activities tailored to the needs of those taking part.
