Keith Tordoff outlines his priorities for Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner

15 March 2021

Keith Tordoff MBE, the Independent candidate in the election for Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner (PFCC) of North Yorkshire, has announced some of his proposed priorities if elected on 6 May 2021.

Keith has outlined  priorities will be based around the following principles which are practical and cost-effective to introduce. Further principles will be announced over the coming weeks.

‘Every Crime and Complaint Matters’

Keith said:

I will work with the Chief Constable to introduce a plan to make sure people when dealing with the police, wherever possible, are spoken to and reassured the relevant information provided by them is being looked into.

People, wherever possible, will later be contacted to see if any new information has come to light, at which time they can be updated on the progress of the crime or complaint.

‘A Green and Pleasant County’

Keith said:

North Yorkshire is a beautiful county and, if elected, I will be working with the Chief Constable and Chief Fire Officer to roll out electric vehicles and bicycles.

Building on the current policies and awareness of their responsibility to the environment, I will aim to increase electric vehicle use by the two services.

  • The vehicles will mainly be for daytime use by support staff, with the vehicles being charged overnight using low-cost electricity.
  • Electric bikes would be offered for patrolling where suitable or for the services’ personnel to use in communities and for safety visits.

A target of 20 per cent of the vehicles in the fleet can be electric within two years, saving money and importantly helping to protect the environment of North Yorkshire.

Keith says that other proposed priorities and initiatives will be announced as his campaign continues.
