IDAS have launched a new website for anyone affected by sexual violence or abuse.

Evie Duarte, Regional Manager for IDAS in North Yorkshire said:

Each year we mark sexual violence awareness week by raising awareness of the types of violence and abuse that people experience and the support available. This year we are delighted to launch a new website, which is a fantastic resource for anyone affected, and for people supporting someone who has experienced sexual violence. The site contains information about the support available as well as advice and guidance to assist people make informed choices following sexual assault or abuse.

In North Yorkshire, Independent Sexual Violence Advisors (ISVAs), employed by IDAS, offer emotional and practical support, which may include support through the criminal justice system if people choose to report to the Police, counselling, housing, sexual and physical health services.

ISVAs can also advocate for victims and survivors, outlining the options and assisting with the communication between the many different agencies and organisations that are involved when a report of sexual violence is made. In addition, ISVAs assist people to understand their fear responses, to look at coping strategies, to help them to build up their self-esteem and confidence.

The new web site contains information about the support available as well as advice and guidance to assist people to make informed choices following sexual assault or abuse.

Sam Beckett, Lead ISVA at IDAS, said:

Since the pandemic, we have moved a lot of our support services online, including launching an online ‘Moving on from Sexual Violence’ group and a new website, which we hope will be an invaluable resource for anyone affected by sexual violence. Particularly at this time, when people are spending more time at home and may be finding it harder to access support, we hope that making our expert advice and guidance available online will mean that more people can access it in ways that suit them and in their own time.

Naomi, a brave survivor of childhood sexual abuse says of the service:

Personally, I had support from IDAS and my own independent counsellor, if it hadn’t been for the support of those two companies I wouldn’t have been where I am today.

The website also contains information for professionals, we hope you will find it to be an invaluable resource.
