13 January 2021

Gordon McClure is coming up to 73-years-old, is from Knaresborough, and about to publish his first book.

He was born in Manchester but his family relocated to the mining village of Grimethorpe near Barnsley in 1951 when he was 3 years old – the eldest of 8 children.

Gordon said:

I have been writing for many years, mainly poetry. Some of my work as been published in various editions over the years. The most recent was a poem in
the Daily Mail.

I have been living in and around Knaresborough for 14 years and most of my stories are Yorkshire-based.

The book came about when my son Shaun, a published author, suggested that I work on a book during “lock down.”

It is my first book and at my age probably my last.

The book begins with a mini biography which charts Gordon’s life throughout childhood, working underground at Grimethorpe colliery until joining the army aged 17.

Gordon said:

It is not a tale of poverty, it’s factual, and I believe written with a lot of humour.

The remainder of the book consists of 6 short stories all but one having a supernatural theme to them. It also contains illustrations and poems.

The book will be published in early February.
