Fire Service work to rescue sheep from frozen pond

A number of crews from the North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service headed to Burton Leonard after reports that a number of sheep were in difficulty on a frozen pond – 17:28 on 9 January 2021.

Around 19 sheep had wandered onto a frozen pond causing the ice to break.

Crews worked to rescue the sheep using 2 inflatable walkways, raft, lines, lighting, thermal imaging camera and crew power.

Unfortunately of the 19 sheep rescued, 16 were dead.
