Harrogate District Climate Change Coalition is reaching out to work together for solutions to the climate crisis

11 November 2020

Who/what/when/where/why:

The Harrogate District Climate Change Coalition (HDCCC) are moving into the next phase of their development. The first stage of this is to launch the inaugural version of its new website this week. The website illustrates the diversity of our local urban and rural environments. All but one of the photographs on the website was taken in the Harrogate District. The Harrogate and District Climate Change Coalition website is online at www.hdccc.info

One initial purpose of the website is to raise awareness of the impact climate change is already beginning to have in Harrogate District, and to point residents and businesses towards some sources of information about steps they can take to limit this. Many of the changes which limit damage to the climate also reduce monthly running costs and make sound economic sense.

Councillor Phil Ireland, Harrogate Borough Council’s cabinet member for carbon reduction and sustainability, said:

Responding to the climate crisis facing us all is not just an issue for us at council. It’s an issue for every resident and business across the district.

That’s why we are eager to reach out and work together to reduce carbon emissions.

I welcome the Harrogate District Climate Change Coalition website being launched and hope it allows us to share ideas and learning that we can turn into actions.

What you can do:

Over the coming months, members of the Harrogate District Climate Change Coalition (HDCCC) would welcome additional support from local businesses, organisations and individuals.

Currently, the Coalition is seeking good news stories which it can share in order to show others some of the positive practice which is taking place in Harrogate District. If your business or organisation has introduced efficiencies which mean it uses less energy, or reduced your reliance on fossil fuels for heat, light or transport, please get in touch.

The Coalition sub-groups are seeking people with specific skills and capacity to offer. At the moment, anyone with experience in improving the energy efficiency and insulation of domestic or commercial buildings could be very helpful. Also, whilst Covid-19 continues to prevent us from engaging with members of the public in person, the Coalition would welcome support from people with experience in digital marketing and market research.
