Man apprehended after gun incident in Masham

North Yorkshire Police executed a large scale operation in the Masham area yesterday evening (7 May 2020), between around 10pm and 11:30pm

There were reports of a man with weapon.

The incident prompted a large response from North Yorkshire Police with the use of road blocks, helicopter, dog section and armed response.

An individual was apprehended in the Grewelthorpe area.

A spokesperson from North Yorkshire Police said:

Police were called to Masham at around 8.10pm last night following concerns about a man’s welfare.

Officers conducted a search of the area and located the man, who was in a distressed state.

He was arrested on suspicion of affray and taken into police custody, where he will also be given any support he requires.

Nobody was injured during this isolated incident.

The present lockdown is causing distress There will be a lot of people seeking help at medical outlets with mental health symptoms as a result of the present lockdown As ever the NHS will be expected to pick up the load of this latest political decision which is causing pain to people in the wider community

  2. FYI purposes I note that the comment I left re this incident in Masham which appeared in the Harrogate Informer appears to haven taken down on the grounds that I’d already posted it which I can assure I most certainly had not Jeanette Ascough
