Yorkshire Water closes reservoirs to visitors after unprecedented numbers over the weekend

23 March 2020

On Monday (23rd March 2020) Yorkshire Water – in line with water companies across the UK – is closing down its reservoir car parks to help encourage everyone to stay at home.

Over the weekend, there were unprecedented numbers of visitors at Yorkshire Water’s reservoirs and concerns were raised about everyone’s ability to follow social distancing guidelines under such busy circumstances. Yorkshire Water took the step to close the car parks and will be installing temporary signs and barriers to encourage visitors to stay away.

Gaynor Craigie, Land and Property Manager said:

We’ve all got to play our part in keeping everyone safe. We’d normally be thrilled to welcome so many visitors to our reservoirs, but with the current government guidelines it makes it incredibly difficult to keep everyone safe.

“We know it’s important to get some fresh air and exercise, particularly at the moment, but it becomes a risky activity when everyone ventures to honey pot sites. Our reservoirs will still be there for everyone to enjoy when the restrictions have been lifted.

    • A refund for what exactly?

Water is still flowing from the reservoirs, treated and being delivered to customers though the pipes. Sewage is still flowing away from your property and being processed.

Car Parks at, and paths around reservoirs are only a by-product of the business and not directly charged for in your utility bill.

Can I get a refund on the time I have had to use to reply to your comment?
      No.
      Get over it!

  1. Yorkshire water needs to close the reservoirs to the public, not just the car parks.
Visitors have just been pushed on to my doorstep parking on the roadside.
coughing and spitting outside my house instead of in the car park.
YOU NEED TO CLOSE THE RESERVOIRS TO PUBLIC ACCESS FULLSTOP

  2. I was cycling through Fewston this morning, Wednesday 25th, and nothing has changed, cars and Van’s dumped on every soft grass verge, more needs to be done other than closing the car parks.

  3. What a disaster Yorkshire Water have created at Ardsley Reservoir by closing the car park and leaving the reservoir open to the public.
Vehicles parked on the footpaths and forcing pedestrians into the road.
Vehicles driving on the footpath to get past parked vehicles and oncoming traffic.
Get your act together Yorkshire Water, before there is a serious incident.
