18 June 2019

Harrogate Borough Council has commissioned the Harrogate International Festivals to deliver a carnival costing £110,000.

The event is on the 27 July 2019 and is part of a series of cultural and promotional activity linked to the UCI 2019 Road World Cycling. It is being funded from the Leeds City Region Business Rates Pool funds.

A spokesman for Harrogate Borough Council said:

As part of our cultural programme ahead of the UCI road world championships, Harrogate will welcome the world with a carnival.

It will be a true ‘party in the park’ with experiences and fun to explore for all the family.

There will be something for everyone on the day, with a parade through the town centre, live music, family activities and a great selection of food vendors offering flavours from across the globe.

Harrogate Borough Council have also confirmed that a business case has not been produced for any of the council spend on the UCI cycle race. This was also the position the money spent on the Tour de France.

  1. Harrogate Council’s donation 110k to cycling (our money ) maybe you should ask them for the money you need .!
Thay take it from us then give it away without consulting.
Every new house build will pay tax to our Council do we see any of it NO
Were is the cash going !
There is so much we can’t afford apparently!!!!

  2. Whilst people may enjoy the carnival it’s a waste of public money. There are people being denied social care. Families of disabled children being denied help. Children not having food. Adults not having food. Dies this council have a moral compass NO
