The care service manager at a Harrogate homecare company has been recognised as the best in the UK after scooping a prestigious industry award.

Tanya Lowe, of Continued Care, was announced as the winner of the Home Care Frontline Leaders category at the national finals of the Great British Care Awards.

Judges praised Tanya for being “a very positive role model, professional and caring” and highlighted her as “a leader who understands that the little things really matter and make the difference.”

The annual Great British Care Awards recognise and reward the outstanding contribution of people working in all areas of social care. Based on nominations, candidates are interviewed by a panel of judges and put forward for regional awards. The winners from all regions are then entered into the national finals.

Tanya and her colleagues from Continued Care, including Iona Novak who was a finalist in the Care Assessor Award, joined more than 1,200 guests at the glittering ceremony in Birmingham on Friday, 8 March 2019.

Tanya said:

I’m overwhelmed to have won, it’s been quite a blur! To even get to the national finals is amazing, and congratulations must go to Iona and all the other finalists. It was amazing to be in a room full of people who do fantastic work in the care sector every day, and to recognise and celebrate everything we do.

This award is not just for me: it’s for everyone at Continued Care as I would not able to lead a team without the passion and dedication from all the individuals within it.

Continued Care’s director Samantha Harrison said:

Tanya is a very worthy winner of the Home Care Frontline Leaders Award, and we are absolutely delighted that her leadership skills as well as her dedication, positivity and compassion have been rewarded. She really is a role model for others.

We are also extremely proud of Iona for reaching the finals and, indeed, of all our staff who work incredibly hard every day to deliver the highest standard of care to all our service users.

Samantha, who presented the Unpaid Carer Award on the night on behalf of the Independent Care Group (ICG), added:

I was very proud to present this important award that recognises the unpaid carers who prop our sector up and are the unsung heroes.
