Cancer patients to “strut their stuff” at Harrogate fashion show fund-raiser

13 September 2018

Cancer patients will be taking to the catwalk this month (September) to raise funds for the Sir Robert Ogden Macmillan Centre.

One vital patient support service that will benefit from money raised from “The Strutting For Cancer Show” – being staged at 7.30pm on Wednesday, September 26, at Gino D’Acampo’s on Parliament Street – is the centre’s Complementary Therapy Service.

This provision offers a range of treatments including acupuncture, reflexology, therapeutic massage and the Bowen Technique, which are used alongside conventional medical care to help patients manage the symptoms and side effects caused by cancer and its treatment.

This much-valued service is only possible due to the donations and charitable funds it receives.

The evening’s showcase, which last year raised £10,000, will be a fashion show featuring a host of local men and women who have been affected by cancer and received treatment at the Sir Robert Ogden Macmillan Centre, which is a key part of Harrogate & District NHS Foundation Trust.

Together with professional models, they will be wearing collections from local fashion houses and high street chains including M&S, LK Bennett, Headlock Vintage and Sheer Bliss Lingerie.

In addition to the catwalk show, there will be an auction and live entertainment featuring a singer, comic opera and disc jockey. Members of Matthew Goodall Personal Training will also be on hand to help to boost the sale of raffle tickets.

Jean Williams, Strutting For Cancer Show co-organiser, said:

Having had cancer twice, I am particularly passionate about supporting The Sir Robert Ogden Macmillan Centre.

This is a wonderful facility, and having therapists administering complementary treatments provides such a great additional support which is not always available at every cancer unit in the country.

Julie Crossman, Lead Complementary Therapist at the Sir Robert Ogden Macmillan Centre and Strutting For Cancer Show co-organiser, said:

This is the third year that we have staged this fundraiser and I want to thank everyone who will be taking to the catwalk, our sponsors and the businesses who have donated prizes and sold tickets, for their support so far.

It’s going to be another super evening and I’m delighted to say all the proceeds will go towards the Sir Robert Ogden Macmillan Centre.”

Tickets for the event, which are priced at £25, can be purchased from the Sir Robert Ogden Macmillan Centre, Wetherby Road, Harrogate (Tel 01423 557317); Bradleys Jewellers, Prospect Crescent, Harrogate; and Caine Florist, John Street, Harrogate.
