Harroagte Railway Ladies 3 – 6 Wakefield Ladies

9 September 2018

Harrogate Railway Ladies returned to league action today against a new team to the league, Wakefield Ladies. Both teams showed great desire to get the first goal in this opening match and with Wakefield hitting the cross bar three times in the first 10 minuets and railway going wide it was anyone’s call. But on the 16th minute it was railway who struck first from a well taken shot from Emma Lansdall, 1-0. Wakefield were quick to respond and with some fast-paced play they took only 5 minutes to equalise beating rails keeper with a one on one ,1-1.

The game was played at a very high tempo throughout with both teams counter breaking each other and on the 42nd minute it was Wakefield who went ahead with a great header from a corner to go 1-2 up railway were rattled from this and struggled for the last few minutes of the first half and as the pressure grew Wakefield got another two minutes into stoppage time going 1-3 up at half time.

The restart brought out a more determined Railway and instantly had Wakefield under pressure winning the ball from the kick off then going forward down the left where Louise Donnelly crossed in to the box for Nicola Hadley to strike home in the 48th minute,2-3.yet again the match went from end to end but when a long ball was played from the Wakefield midd fielder rails keeper made a run for the loose ball only to find the striker just beating her to it and having an easy tap in,-2-4.

Railway were not giving up and with another great counter break when full back Erica Brirnie cleared the lines, the ball was played wide to the left where Danni Petrova then went direct for goal and from 20 yards out let loose a rocket of a shot to make it 3-4 with 15 minutes to go, game on you would say but Wakefield then dominated the last 15 minutes bagging two more and winning 3-6.

A disappointing result for the Railway ladies but with much learnt from this game.

Next week they are away at Altofts Ladies.
