Harrogate organisations share Summer Masonic Windfall

23 July 2018

Two Harrogate community groups have received a slice of a £27,800 charity giveaway, courtesy of the Freemasons.

Grants varying in size from £500 to £5,000 have been distributed to 14 worthy causes, including youth clubs, hospitals, theatres and specialist care centres from the Province of Yorkshire West Riding’s Provincial Grand Master’s (PGM) Fund.

Each year this fund – which has been supporting community organisations since 1987 – awards grants totalling £200,000. Nominees are selected by individual Masonic Lodges with grants presented four times a year.

The Harrogate organisations to receive grants this quarter are:

  • Harrogate based CFR (Community First Responders) – a voluntary organisation assisting Ambulance service and medical staff – received £2,500 towards the purchase of further kit bags encompassing AED (automated external defibrillator) and medical items
  • RHS Harlow Carr was awarded £1,500 to help create a woodland area

David S Pratt, The Provincial Grand Master of the Province of Yorkshire West Riding, said:

Once again we are delighted to be able to support these 14 different organisations through to the PGM’s Fund.

Each one of these nominees are fantastic organisations doing superb work within their local communities, and thanks to our members and lodges who contribute to this fund, we are able to support them financially.

Damian Bowen, one of the team co-ordinators for Harrogate Community First Responders, said:

We’d like to say a big thank you to the Freemasons for their very generous donation.

Having more life-saving equipment means that more of us can be on duty at the same time to respond to medical emergencies in Harrogate and the surrounding area.

The Province of Yorkshire West Riding is based on the old West Riding, geographically ranging from Sheffield in the south to Ripon in the North and Goole in the East to Waddington in the West.
