Welcome to Yorkshire has backed the bid for Yorkshire to play its part in the Rugby League World Cup 2021.

Three Yorkshire rugby league legends – Keith Senior (former Leeds Rhinos/Sheffield Eagles & England centre), James Simpson (RLWC2021 Ambassador, Leeds Rhinos and England Wheelchair captain) and Charlotte Booth (Bradford Bulls & England women’s full back) joined Sir Gary at the Welcome to Yorkshire stand at the Great Yorkshire Show where they showed off the coveted Rugby League World Cup trophy to the public.

Sir Gary Verity DL, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire said:

Yorkshire is the home of rugby league with some of the most dedicated supporters in the country and some of the best players leading from the front in the men’s, women’s and wheelchair England teams. Knowing how passionate this county is about sport, especially rugby league, I know the Rugby League World Cup will receive a massive welcome in Yorkshire.

Set to be the biggest and best Rugby League World Cup in history, the inspirational moments of England 2021 will capture the imagination of everyone.

It’s expected that up to 40 venues across the country will bid to host games from the men’s, women’s and wheelchair world cup games with Yorkshire towns and cities putting in a number of bids. The successful venues and host locations will be announced in January 2019.

Jon Dutton, Chief Executive of the Rugby League World Cup 2021, added:

Prospective hosts have until the end of July to submit their initial bid proposals and we fully expect to get some strong bids from Yorkshire. We’re proud to be an official partner of the Northern Powerhouse and we’ve committed to holding 80% of the games across the Northern Powerhouse regions. The tournament will be a celebration of the sport and we’re looking forward to Yorkshire playing their part.”021 will capture the imagination of all.
