John Wilson Orchestra to bring the glamour of Hollywood’s leading ladies to Harrogate this weekend

16 June 2018

The John Wilson Orchestra is a regular and always popular addition to the Harrogate International Festivals series. This Sunday he is heading to the Royal Hall with a concert titled “Can’t Help Singing: Hollywood’s Leading Ladies in Concert”.

Prepare for an explosion of glamour, as the hills come alive in technicolour brilliance. Famed for their breath-taking verve, the John Wilson Orchestra swings back into town celebrating the Gold Age of Hollywood and breathing new life into music from the musicals. Featuring some of the best wind and brass players on the planet, their Hollywood-themed performances attract millions to tune in to the Proms and are a firm fixture in the Festivals annual programme.

Joining the orchestra will be Kim Criswell, an accomplished recording artist in her own right and singing in many musicals around the world – Cats, Stardust, The Sound of Music and Carrie to name just a few.

Lizzie Brewster from Harrogate Festivals says she is looking forward to the event.

Lizzie said:

We’re delighted to have the John Wilson Orchestra one again as part of Summer Festival programme. Their glamour and sprinkle of Hollywood magic always works so well in the beautiful surroundings of the Royal Hall; Hollywood comes to Harrogate for one night only.

From Judy Garland to Julie Andrews, Doris Day to Barbara Streisand, the orchestra will perform songs from iconic stars of stage and screen with guest Kim Criswell. Hits include You Made Me Love You, Stormy Weather, and There’s No Business Like Show Business. Be swept up in the romance, sass, swaggering brass and swooning strings.
