HMCA celebrates 40 years in business

12 June 2018

Hospital & Medical Care Association (HMCA), one of the UK’s leading providers of membership benefits, has marked a huge milestone by celebrating 40 successful years in business. Back in 1978, HMCA was originally founded by Barney and Julia Skrentny and boasted just three employees. It has since grown to now provide employment for 61 people across its offices in London, Dublin, Gibraltar and Knaresborough.

To mark this special occasion, the firm unveiled a slate plaque on its head office at Beech Hall in Knaresborough and a speech of thanks was given by the son of the founders, Barney Skrentny. The grounds of the HQ then provided the perfect venue for a spectacular hog roast event for all staff, their families and friends of the company.

HMCA’s Chairman Barney Skrentny (Senior) commented:

We are delighted to be celebrating our 40th anniversary with all the people who have helped to make the business what it is today. In the early days, we could only have hoped to be in such a wonderful position in 2018. I think a contributing factor to our success has been our determination to stick by our ethos of providing highly competitive benefits for membership organisations and to provide every single one of our customers with a superlative standard of dedicated customer service.

Given that we still have some customers who have been with us right from the start, we must have got something right and now we intend to build on our success to secure a thriving business for generations to come.

The event was perfectly timed to coincide with the Great Knaresborough Bed Race and included HMCA sponsoring a bed in the race for the very first time. The result? A running team which showed remarkable stamina and determination, finishing in a respectable 59th place from a starting position of 87th.

HMCA was originally founded to offer benefits exclusively for trade and professional groups, associations, institutes and societies and the firm now provides a portfolio of membership benefits to over 600 groups. Such benefit plans include: Private Medical Plans, Dental Plans, Income Protection Plans, Life cover, Travel insurance, Personal Accident Plans and Vehicle Breakdown cover. All plans are highly competitive and designed to specifically serve membership groups’ interests.

The company works with all sizes of organisations and prides itself on its excellent personal customer service. There are no automated messages: with HMCA customers are guaranteed to speak to an experienced professional who will make sure a first-class service is delivered on time, every time.
