Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust successful in bid for School Aged Influenza Immunisation Service for Leeds

15 May 2018

The School Aged Influenza Immunisation Service contract for Leeds has been awarded to Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust, the first of the Trust’s children’s services contracts in the city.

The contract, which is for a year from 1 April 2018 with the option of a second year, will see the Trust offer an immunisation service to school-children in Leeds. It has been awarded by NHS England.

The Service, which is nurse-led will provide the nasal Influenza vaccination to children in both school and community settings. The vaccine is routinely used to protect those most at risk of developing serious illness, including children.

The delivery of the School Aged Influenza Immunisation Service for Leeds is the latest addition to the Trust’s provision as the largest provider of Children’s Services in the UK as measured by geographical area. The Trust already provides a range of Children’s Services in County Durham, Darlington, Middlesbrough, Stockton-on-Tees and across North Yorkshire, including City of York.

Vaccination programmes aim to protect people for life. They often concentrate on young children, as they are particularly vulnerable to many potentially dangerous infections.

The team will work in close partnership with other organisations, such as GPs, NHS England, Public Health England – as well as schools, parents and young people in Leeds.

Lois Alderson, Clinical Lead for Childhood Immunisations in North Yorkshire, City of York and Leeds at the Trust, said:

We are delighted to have been awarded the contract to deliver the School Aged Influenza Immunisation Service for Leeds.

Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust has four years’ experience in delivering these programmes in North Yorkshire and York and we consistently achieve over the national average in the number of children that we vaccinate.

The team look forward to meeting the children and families of Leeds.
