79-year-old remains in hospital a week after collision between her car and police vehicle on blue-light run

A 79-year-old woman remains in hospital with serious injuries one week after a collision between a police vehicle and her car.

The collision happened at the junction of Cold Bath Road and Otley in Harrogate at around 10:12pm on Saturday, 5 May 2018. It involved an unmarked police vehicle that was moving under a blue light and a Vauxhall Corsa.

The single occupant of the police vehicle, a serving North Yorkshire Police officer, was taken to Harrogate Hospital.

The driver and a passenger of the Corsa were seriously injured. Both in their late 70’s, the passenger was transferred to Harrogate Hospital with multiple limb fractures. The driver remains in Jimmy’s Hospital in Leeds and has multiple injuries, but is conscious and talking, injuries include a punctured lung, fractured vertebrae and a fractured foot she remains under treatment.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) have confirmed that the incident has been referred to them for review.

North Yorkshire Police have declined to add any further comment or information, other than to reaffirm that they are running an appeal for witnesses to the incident.
