Nicola Appleton and Jo Finnegan - Harrogate Marie Curie Fundraising team

Sun, sun and more sun due for charity rugby match and family fun day for Marie Curie

5 May 2018

Harrogate Rugby Club will host a charity Rugby Match and family fun day for Marie Curie on Sunday 6 May 2018 -organisers say they are relieved with the sunshiney forecast!

Nicola Appleton and Jo Finnegan are volunteers organising the event for Marie Curie and both having been supported by Marie Curie in the past themselves. The event is currently the largest event the newly reformed group have put together.

It’s planned as a day for all the family from a bar and BBQ to children’s fun zone. Starting at 11am with match kick-off at 2pm, going through into the evening.

Harrogate should see weather similar today with a high of 24 degrees C and sunshine. Like many events, the weather can make or break them. The forecast great weather will mean more people and more money being raised for the charity. Marie Curie provides support at home for for individuals with a terminal condition. Fundraising such as this helps them reach more people.

The day is also being held in honour of John Finnegan a respected past president of Harrogate rugby union club and a long-serving player.  John sadly died in 2017 and was supported by Marie Curie.
