Trout treat for anglers with 10,000lbs set to be added to Washburn Valley fishery

29 March 2018

Yorkshire Water is set to release over 10,000 lbs of trout into its fishery in the Washburn Valley near Harrogate as it declares its fishing season open for business.

The fishery incorporates Fewston, Swinsty and Thruscross reservoirs with a pre-season stock having already taken place at Fewston with the rainbow trout being stocked from now until the season’s end in Autumn.

Regarded as one of the toughest to catch, rainbow trout are a popular target for fly fishers. Standard day tickets cost £20 which allows the angler to take home up to four fish in one visit to Fewston. There are also season, concessionary and evening tickets available. Both coarse and fly fishing are also available at Swinsty Moor reservoir.

Brown trout fishing can be found at Thruscross reservoir on a catch and return basis and accessible fishing opportunities with associated parking are available at Swinsty reservoir catering for disabled anglers.

Recreation Advisor at Yorkshire Water, Alastair Harvey said:

We have some of the finest reservoirs in the country and we are thrilled our Washburn Valley Fishery is open once again for the 2018 season.

Thousands of fish will be introduced to our Washburn Valley Fishery over the course of the 2018 season as part of our annual stocking programme so there is plenty of opportunity for a big, big catch.

The Washburn Valley Fishery is open seven days a week between 7.30am and one hour after sunset. Day tickets cost £20, concessions are £17, and evening tickets are available at £15. Season tickets are £380.
