New community defibrillator and CPR training at the Knox in Harrogate

26 March 2018

The Knox pub in Harrogate has installed a community defibrillator.

At the weekend (24 March 2018), representatives from the pub, Harrogate Lions Club and Harrogate Community First Responders came together to officially launch the new defibrillator. Both the pub itself and the 999 ambulance control room have the PIN number for the cabinet.

The unit has been installed thanks to community donations and by the Harrogate Lions Club.

At the event the Harrogate Community First Responders demonstrated how the unit can be used, emphasising how straightforward it is to use and that it is not possible to do harm to an individual with it. They also demonstrated its use alongside CPR.

The Lions Club also announced plans to fill the gaps in the town where there are currently defibrillators, such as Killinghall and the Pennypot area. They have allocated £5,000 of their own funds and are looking to have funding of around £20,000, with support of individuals and businesses – they have a race night at the Knox already planned for 13 April 2018.
