The BBC Look North sofa, prepared for an eight-day charity push around Yorkshire, started off with a fitness test against three of the teams entered for the 2018 Great Knaresborough Bed Race.

The sofa, pushed by BBC presenters Harry Gration, Amy Garcia and Paul Hudson, took part in time and fitness trials against the beds on Wednesday 13 March at Conyngham Hall, start and finish venue of the great Knaresborough event.

Specially fitted out as a racing sofa, the BBC team came in a disappointing fourth against teams from Knaresborough Rugby Club, Mums on the Run and the Half Moon pub.

Richard Hall of the Knaresborough Lions, organisers of Bed Race, said:

There was no doubt the Bed Race teams were fitter and faster.

It shows the truth of what we have always said, ‘when it comes to manoeuvrability’ beds are the fastest furniture on four wheels.

The Look North team are taking their sofa on a tour of 50 locations in Yorkshire starting on 15 March raising funds for Sports Relief, to mark the 50th anniversary of the programme, which was first aired 0n 25 March 1968.

Bed racing in Knaresborough started two years earlier in 1966 and is staged by the Lions club to raise money for local causes. This year’s event will be held on Saturday 9 June with the theme ‘A Night at the Theatre’.
