Julian Smith MP recently met with James Calder, Head of Public Affairs at the Society of Independent Brewers, in Westminster, to discuss the breweries in the constituency and the impact of government policy.

SIBA, the Society of Independent Brewers, which is based in Ripon, was established in 1980 to represent the interests of a number of independent breweries in Britain.

Julian Smith said:

I was pleased to be able to discuss the breweries SIBA represents in our constituency with James. I am always keen to hear their views on issues such as beer duty and small breweries’ relief. We are very lucky to have so many wonderful independent breweries in our area.

James Calder, Head of Public Affairs at SIBA said:

It was great to meet with Julian. We talked a little about some of the issues local brewers face, as well as the positive impact of a freeze in beer duty and further help on business rates for pubs from the last Budget. Both of these Government policies have undoubtedly helped brewers and pubs in Skipton and Ripon, and across Yorkshire.
