£300,000 sewer improvements for the village of Coneythorpe

5 February 2018

Yorkshire Water is about to start a £300,000 project to lay a new sewer through the village of Coneythorpe near Knaresborough. The existing sewer runs through nearby woodland and due its age is at risk of bursting.

The new pipe will be laid within the road enabling easier access for future maintenance and reduce the risk of pollution to a nearby watercourse.

From 12 February, Shortsill Lane will be closed to the south of Coneythorpe to through traffic for around four months and a diversion will be in place using the A59 and A168. By the 19 February, the company hope to progress north of the Tiger Inn, allowing access to it from the south via the A59 and also ensuring that school buses can continue to pick up local children as normal. During half term, the Tiger Inn will be accessible from Arkendale via the diversion route.

Buses will also follow the diversion route meaning that the public number 21 service will not be able to pick up in Flaxby or Coneythorpe. All businesses will remain open as normal and we’d urge customers to continue to use them as normal.

Yorkshire Water spokesperson, John Bond said: “We’ve liaised closely with the local highways department and have had to close the road for safety reasons. We’d like to apologise for any inconvenience caused to motorists and commuters whilst we complete this important project which will bring about significant environmental benefits for the area.”
