See behind the scenes at Harrogate Borough Council’s new HQ building

4 February 2018

Behind-the-scenes tours are being offered at Harrogate council’s new headquarters.

The doors of civic centre will be thrown open on Saturday 17 February 2018.

Visitors will have the opportunity to tour the customer services centre, see the new council chamber and the café in the main reception area.

They’ll also be shown the first-floor meeting rooms which boast state-of-the-art audio/visual facilities and, later this year, will be available for hire.

Areas normally off-limits to the public will also be included, so visitors will be able to see the office space now occupied by staff who were previously spread across different buildings.

Two tours – one at 10am and the other at 11am – are being offered.

Numbers are limited and anyone who wishes to come along must register beforehand.

Civic centre was officially opened on 15 December and replaced office accommodation in five separate locations across the town centre.

The building was designed by Yorkshire-based architects Farrell and Clark and will deliver cost savings of approximately £1 million a year.

As well as improving facilities for staff, civic centre transforms the experience for the many hundreds of people who visit the customer service centre each week.

Councillor Richard Cooper, leader of the council, said:

We’re really proud of the new civic centre, not least because the money saved from running our five previous buildings can be invested straight into frontline services.

We’ve had lots of interest in the project to construct the new offices and this gives us the opportunity to open the doors and allow people to see it for themselves.

I’d like to encourage everyone to come and along to view the transformed facilities now on offer in the customer service centre.

And, as the council chamber is included in the tour, there’ll be the chance for people to see what it’s like to be a councillor.
