Kex Gill barrier repair work completed

19 December 2017

The A59 at Kex Gill, between Harrogate and Skipton, has been fully reopened a week earlier than expected after work to repair the crash barrier and retaining wall damaged in a lorry accident was completed.

The concrete barriers which had been in place since the crash have been removed, as have the temporary traffic lights.

North Yorkshire County Councillor Don Mackenzie, Executive Member for Highways, said:

It was a priority for us to get this repair done as soon as possible and I am delighted it has been completed in time for Christmas. A lot of work went into making this a robust and full repair to current safety standards and we would like to thank everyone for their patience while it was completed.

County Councillor Stanley Lumley, who represents the Pateley Bridge division, said:

As this road is the main cross-country route through our district it was very important to repair it as soon as possible. This news will be very well received, especially as it is finished in time for the Christmas period.
