Cheerleading is a fun and energetic way to keep fit and make new friends.  It incorporates stunts, tumbling, dance and jumps.

The Hornets are looking for youngsters aged 7-16 across all abilities, whether they’ve tried cheerleading before of are complete beginners as no experience is necessary – just plenty of enthusiasm!

There are opportunities to enter competitions, as well as take part in performances in the local community, including regular appearances at Harrogate Town football club where the Hornets are the official cheerleaders.

Harrogate Hornets was set up in 2007 by Harrogate Borough Council’s Sports Development Team as a way to encourage girls to stay fit, as well as giving them experience of working as a team.

Councillor Stanley Lumley is Harrogate Borough Council’s cabinet member for culture, tourism and sport.  He said:

Over the past 10 years the Harrogate Hornets have gone from strength to strength.

During that time they’ve won awards at competitions all over the UK, and are now a regular feature at local events.

We’re committed to supporting our communities to get fitter and become more active and the Harrogate Hornets are certainly achieving that, in a way that’s exciting and, most importantly, fun.

Harrogate Hornets sessions take place during term times at Jennyfield Styan Community Centre on Thursday evenings from 4:45pm to 6:45pm, with extra competition sessions on a Monday evening 6pm till 8pm.

Sessions cost £6 each. To find out more about Harrogate Hornets, and to arrange to come along to a session, contact Iain Service, Development Officer for Sports & Projects at Harrogate Borough Council, on 07525 988154 or email sports.development@harrogate.gov.uk
